About Didier Drogba
Didier Drogba was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on March 11, 1978. When he was 5 years old, Drogba left Ivory Coast and lived with his uncle, Michael Goba who was a professional football player, in Brittany. For several years he lived in Brest, Angouleme and Dunkirk, before he returned to Ivory Coast.
Because of the deteriorating economic situation in which his parents lost their jobs, Drogba returned to live with his uncle in Pennywell, although later Drogba move around France as a goatherd. At this time Drogba started playing football. In the year of 1991, Drogba’s parents also traveled to Franche, at which point the 15-year-old Drogba returned to live with his parents again.

Didier Drogba’s Professional Football Career
Le Mans and Guingamp
Didier Drogba joined the club Le Mans, a club in Ligue 2 France, in 1998 when he was 19 years old. But Drogba was not signed on professional terms until he was 21.
In the 2001-2002 season, Drogba joined Guingamp in Ligue 1. The next season Drogba scored 17 goals and helped Guingamp finish seventh, a new record for the club. These achievements brought Drogba joined Olympique de Marseille, one of the biggest clubs in France.

Didier Drogba was consistent performer at Olympique, scoring 19 goals and winning the award for French player of the year. Drogba also scored 5 goals in the Champions League that season. At the end of the season, Didier Drogba was bought to Chelsea as the club’s then record signing for 23.8 million pound sterling.

Drogba is still held in high esteem in Marseille where the crowd at the Stade Velodrome continue to chant his name. His shirt from his only season at OM is also framed in the basilica of Marseille, Notre-Dame de la Garde, after he went there before the UEFA cup final and presented it to the church.

Chelsea
Didier Drogba signed Chelsea in July 2004 for three years contract where Chelsea and Marseille eventually agreed on a 24 Million pound sterling fee.

In 2004/05 season, Drogba proved his competency in just 41 matches, where he scored 16 goals, including one against Liverpool in the Carling Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium.

Drogba faced some criticisms in 2nd half of the 2004/2005 season over his form which made difficult for him to adapt life in England, such vibrations around him and 2005/06 season approaching he was due to prove himself as it was a crucial season for him.
